Waltham teachers to take on the Harlem Wizards in benefit hoop game

The world-famous Harlem Wizards are coming to put a full-court press on Waltham teachers.

Known for their basketball hijinks, the Wizards will square off against a veteran Waltham team made up of teachers and staff from the city’s schools.

The game is scheduled for Jan. 30 at the Kennedy Middle School Field House, 655 Lexington St. The game begins at 7 p.m., doors open at 6 p.m.

The Wizards can turn a basketball game into a Broadway show using spectacular dunks, tricks, music, comedy, dancing and audience participation. They performed in more than 450 communities across the country last season and helped raise more than $3 million for schools.

Proceeds will benefit Waltham youth, supporting educational activities, field trip transportation, enrichment programs and teacher appreciation at Kennedy Middle School. In addition, other Waltham PTOs that choose to participate in the event will receive a share of the ticket sales that are attributed to their schools.

The Kennedy PTO is still seeking sponsors to help make this community event a success. See here for more details on sponsorship levels. Last year’s sold-out game ended in victory for the Wizards, 78-63.
