Community invited to volunteer for MLK Day projects at Boys & Girls Club

The Waltham Boys & Girls Club will host a community service day on Monday, Jan. 19, honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through hands-on volunteer activities and a local food drive. All families with children in kindergarten through high school are welcome to participate.

Volunteers are encouraged to register in advance through the Waltham Boys & Girls Club.

Event organizers said the activities aim to connect community members through service and continue King’s “dream” of a more just and compassionate society.

The event, taking place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the club’s 20 Exchange St. facility, invites attendees to take part in service projects that reflect King’s message of unity, compassion, and social justice. Participants will be divided into four volunteer groups, each focusing on a different community-building project.

One group will prepare hygiene kits and sort food donations for Healthy Waltham, supporting families and individuals in need. Another will bake and package homemade dog treats for local animal shelters. A third team will design lawn signs promoting messages of hope and equity, to be displayed around the city and at local schools. A fourth group will create handmade crafts and artwork for the international Arts for Little Hearts initiative, which sends care packages to children in hospitals around the world.

In addition to the service projects, the club will hold a food drive to support local families. Nonperishable items can be dropped off before the event or brought on the day of the program.
