Dorchester man held on $5,000 bail in connection with September Waltham restaurant burglaries

Shawn Michael Broxton, 47, of Rosseter Street, Dorchester, pleaded not guilty to ten charges related to the September burglaries of Sakura Japanese Restaurant at 5 Pine St. and Rhino Restaurant and Lounge at 11 Cooper St. at an arraignment on Jan. 5. The burglaries resulted in a loss of approximately $3,900.

Waltham District Court issued a warrant for Broxton’s arrest on Nov. 19 and he was arrested by Lynn police on Nov. 20.

Broxton is charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of larceny from a building, two counts of possession of a burglarious instrument, two counts of malicious destruction of property over $1,200, breaking into a depository, and designation of common and notorious thief for the two burglaries on Sept. 14.

According to the prosecution, a vehicle registered to Broxton was caught on surveillance footage connecting him to the crimes. 

Additionally, the defendant has committed similar crimes in Lynn, Medford and Easton that resulted in a total loss of approximately $26,000, including the theft of a safe in Easton containing money he later used to gamble at the Encore Boston Harbor casino, the prosecution said.

Waltham District Court Judge Amanda Ward ordered Broxton remain held at Middlesex Jail in Billerica on $5,000 bail at a hearing to review status on Jan. 13.

Broxton is scheduled to appear via Zoom at Waltham District Court for a pretrial hearing on March 10.
