The Waltham Hawkstars fell to the Wizards 92-85 at Saturday’s fundraising game for Waltham middle and elementary schools, but you couldn’t find a disappointed face in the house.

The Wizards basketball team dazzled the packed gym at Kennedy Middle School Field House with a high-energy, family-friendly basketball performance against the Hawksters, a team of teachers and staff from Waltham schools.

The atmosphere was lively from the first whistle on with the all-ages crowd focused on entertainment rather than competition. During the game, the Wizards threw merchandise into the stands and brought audience members onto the court for interactive segments.

The crowd cheered as the Wizards dunked, joked and made half-court trick shots all game long. The Waltham Hawkstars gladly served as foils, playing along and adding to the fun. The Wizards won 92-85, despite their gallant efforts to help the Hawkstars score.

At the game’s end, children rushed the court and celebrated among confetti and streamers with players and fans alike.

Proceeds from the game benefit Waltham youth, supporting educational activities, field trip transportation and teacher appreciation at Kennedy Middle School. Other Waltham PTOs that participated will also receive a share of ticket sales.
