Public safety report: Idling car stolen and involved in serious car crash
A car that was stolen while the owner was warming the engine was involved in a serious crash on Main Street.
On Jan. 28 at 9:24 p.m., police responded to a crash on Main Street. A car that was stopped on Main Street waiting to make a left onto Stow Street was struck by a moving car. The impact caused the moving car to flip over, trapping the driver inside.
An Eversource worker and people on the street worked together to remove the car’s windshield in an effort to extract the driver. Responding officers, assisted by the Eversource worker, successfully removed the trapped woman from the car.
Both drivers involved in the crash were transported to a local hospital, and both vehicles were towed.
Upon further investigation, police discovered that the overturned vehicle was stolen, allegedly by the woman driving it. The vehicle’s owner told police that she had started the car to warm up the engine and went back inside her house for approximately 10 minutes. The car was stolen during that time.
Police arrested Pierce Osgood, 29, a homeless woman from Concord, N.H., and charged her with receiving a stolen motor vehicle, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, marked lanes violation and furnishing false identification to the police.
