Irish music lights up packed house at Waltham’s Senior Center

It seemed like everyone was Irish at the Stanley Senior Center on Friday afternoon.

The place was alive with music and laughter as the Boston Harbor Bhoys took the stage for a lively afternoon performance.

A record crowd of more than 130 seniors cheered and clapped along with the Celtic-inspired trio, known for their energetic renditions of traditional Irish songs.

All three are versatile singers and musicians, each capable of holding a stage on his own. But when they come together in harmony, they really know how to energize a crowd. It took no time to get the audience tapping their feet and singing along to such classics as “The Wild Rover” and “Whiskey in the Jar.”

Eddie Biggins, along with son Ryan and singer Michael Maloney, played a lively set of jigs, soulful ballads and a few fun originals that had the audience smiling throughout. The Bhoys’ banter between songs added warmth and charm to the performance.

After the final chords were played to heartfelt applause, the Bhoys and seniors stayed around for refreshments provided by the Council on Aging.

Volunteers, staff and musicians all contributed to a successful event, which turned a simple Friday afternoon into a lively “Irish” community gathering.

The COA offers concerts and other social get-togethers for seniors over 60 and their families at the Stanley Senior Center. Check the March calendar for upcoming events.
