Man fired from Ocean State Job Lot for being intoxicated charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct
Jarrod G. Vincent, 52, of Waltham, pleaded not guilty to charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
On March 14 at 11:34 a.m., police responded to reports of an unwanted man at the Ocean State Job Lot on River Street, identified as Vincent. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the manager, who explained that Vincent had shown up to work intoxicated earlier that morning. After a discussion in the front office where he admitted to drinking, Vincent was fired.
When an employee is terminated on the premises of an Ocean State Job Lot location, the store’s policy is to have a friend or family member pick up the person to ensure they leave the property. The manager also had concerns that Vincent would be unable to leave the location by himself due to his intoxicated state.

According to the police report, officers encountered Vincent in the front office. Vincent had red glossy eyes and smelled strongly of alcohol. When given the opportunity to contact someone to pick him up, Vincent declined. He was then informed he wasn’t free to leave until someone came to pick him up and was advised to go to the hospital to receive care for his current condition. Vincent began yelling, telling police that they couldn’t tell him what to do. At one point, Vincent pointed a finger in an officer’s face and said “You clearly don’t know the law, what are you, a rookie?”
After more discussion, Vincent advanced towards officers with a closed fist raised as if to punch the officers. An officer grabbed Vincent’s arm and told him he was being placed under arrest. According to the police report, Vincent began to tense up, which the officer holding his arm responded to by pushing him up against a nearby filing cabinet to try to gain control of his other arm. Officers gave him several commands to stop resisting arrest. Eventually, Vincent was cuffed, placed under arrest and taken to the station for booking.
At his arraignment session on March 16, Vincent pleaded not guilty to both charges. Judge Ellen M. Caulo released Vincent on personal recognizance. A pre-trial hearing for Vincent’s case will take place on April 23.
