Music, energy and talent shine at Waltham show choir festival

Saturday’s Eastern Show Choir Festival at Waltham High School was a huge success and a clear celebration of talent, teamwork and musical passion.

Hosted by the Waltham Choral Parents Association, the all-day event is the longest-running show choir competition of its kind in New England. All proceeds directly support Waltham show choirs, who performed as host ensembles at the show but did not compete for awards.

“We had an amazing day. Excellent turnout from the community and a highly successful fundraising event for Waltham show choirs,” said Jade Longstaff, WCPA board member. “Even Mayor McCarthy attended and sat in her reserved seat.”

More than 20 choir groups from across the region and out of state lit up the stage with Broadway-style singing and high-energy choreography. Each group brought its own unique style, and the audience of family, friends and music lovers — more than 700 in total — responded by cheering them on, creating an atmosphere that felt both competitive and supportive.

The competition kicked off at 8:00 a.m. and quickly transformed the WHS auditorium into a hub of music and movement. Representing a range of schools and communities from Natick, Mass., to Marysville, Ohio, the groups delivered outstanding performances that reflected months of preparation.

Behind the scenes the festival’s success was driven by dedicated organizers, tech crews, and volunteers who kept everything running smoothly. In particular, show choir directors Alyssa and Tom Cincotta handled key logistics such as travel arrangements for the judges, hotel reservations and on-site food to ensure a successful event.

A standout moment during the day came from Waltham’s own Music Express, whose high-energy set combined a sweet storyline with great harmonies that showcased the group’s range and talent.

Music Unlimited from Waltham closed the festival with a powerful 20- minute, high-energy performance that brought the crowd to its feet and earned a well-deserved standing ovation.

Show choir awards were presented in four divisions: junior, treble/bass, small mixed and large mixed. See here for a complete list of award winners.

  1. so much talent, so much fun. Gives me real hope and confidence in this young generation to make this world and our community a better place “Beautiful day in the neighborhood” Such a tremendous support system by parents and others to make it happen

  2. It was an outstanding festival! Just for clarificadtion, the community that hosts the competition does not compete, therefore, does not win awards. Waltham Music Unlimited and Express both did exceptionally well this season at all of the competitions they visited. Great job to the students, parents, and directors who continue to fight to keep this program going!
