By Cyd Abnet

Joel G. Moore, 60, of Waltham, pleaded not guilty on April 15 to charges of shoplifting by asportation third offense and possession of a Class B drug, subsequent offense.

On April 14 at 4:05 p.m., police responded to reports of a shoplifter at Marshalls on 126 Market Place Drive. A loss prevention specialist from Marshalls informed police that a man who had visited the store earlier in the day had returned. After taking items from the store, he entered the back seat of a vehicle that was now parked in the Market Basket parking lot. Officers located the vehicle and identified the man in the back seat as Moore.

According to the police report, an officer asked Moore what items he had taken from Marshalls. Moore presented the officers with several items and informed them he had not paid for them. The loss prevention specialist was able to identify Moore as the shoplifter and provide officers with an itemized receipt of all of the items Moore stole. Moore stole a total of $203.87 worth of merchandise.

Moore was placed under arrest for shoplifting by asportation, third offense and possession of a Class B drug, subsequent offense.

Moore pleaded not guilty to both charges and was released on personal recognizance by Judge Edward Karcasinas. A pretrial hearing is set for June 3.
