Waltham comes together for Strides for Education 5K race
Waltham Education and Beyond Foundation Strides for Education 5K drew an impressive and supportive crowd on Sunday. It was a much chillier day than last year, but the energy and community spirit more than made up for it.
Moody Street was full of life as runners, walkers and cheerleaders came together for this fun, family-friendly event supporting Waltham students and educators.
The day began with a burst of youthful energy as the Kids Fun Run 1K kicked things off. Watching the K–3 runners charge downhill from Shoppers Cafe to the Moody Street bridge (with adults trying to keep up) was a highlight.
The top finishers in the 5K race were Jocelin Previl (17:34) for the men and Sarah Shute (19:42) for the women. Many runners sought personal records and others took a more relaxed pace or walked alongside friends and neighbors.
Organizers gave a shout out to everyone who made the day a success including Kristin Perez, the WEBF committee, race volunteers, police and CPW, Zumba Jen, DJ Shaw, Shoppers Cafe and race route sponsor Waltham Watch Factory.
