Teamsters Local 25 awards scholarship to Waltham student

A Waltham High School graduate is among dozens of students recognized this year by Teamsters Local 25 with college scholarship support.

Miguel Caceda of Waltham received a scholarship from the union, which awarded 37 scholarships totaling $74,000 to children and grandchildren of members and retirees. The awards were announced during the union’s May general membership meeting.

Caceda, the son of Teamsters Local 25 member Miguel Caceda Sr., will attend Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island, this fall. His father is employed by Martignetti Cos.

Union officials said this year’s awards mark the largest scholarship distribution in the organization’s history, made possible through member contributions.

“We have the strongest membership in the country and among the most generous when it comes to supporting the children of our members,” Teamsters Local 25 President Tom Mari said in a statement. “For these students, the support goes far beyond financial assistance. Our union has always believed in uplifting the next generation.”

Mari added that the union aims to continue supporting recipients throughout their academic journeys.

The scholarship program is funded in part by union members and supported by sponsoring organizations, including Feinberg, Dumont & Brennan; HILB Group Inc.; Regan Associates Chartered; Keches Law Group; Regan Communications Group; and several Teamsters Local 25-affiliated groups and memorial funds.

Since 2006 Teamsters Local 25 has awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships to support higher education for members’ families. The union represents about 13,000 workers across New England.
