The Cat Connection seeks volunteers to meet summer care gap
The Cat Connection is calling for volunteers to help care for cats during the busy summer months, when regular foster families and volunteers are often away on vacation.
The Waltham-based nonprofit said it faces a seasonal strain on resources each year, even as the number of cats needing daily care remains steady. The organization is seeking both temporary and longer-term foster homes, as well as onsite volunteers, to help bridge the gap.
Fostering opportunities range from short-term placements lasting one to two weeks — covering for vacationing foster families — to longer stays of several weeks or months. “Every bit of space helps,” the organization said in its announcement, encouraging community members to consider opening their homes.
The Cat Connection is also recruiting volunteers to assist at its shelter at 167 Chestnut Hill Ave. in Brighton. Just two hours per week “can make a massive difference for our resident kitties,” it said. Volunteers help with feeding, cleaning enclosures and socializing cats to prepare them for adoption.
Volunteer shifts are available daily from 8 to 10 a.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.
