City Council in brief
The City Council handled numerous administrative tasks and brief items at its Monday night meeting. Here’s a rundown of those actions.
- Opened two public hearings for National Grid to open and repave streets — to install a new residential gas line at 52 Willow Street and to replace outdated gas pipes under the recently paved Browns Avenue. These hearings will continue next week in the council’s Public Works and Public Safety Committee.
- Opened two public hearings for Eversource to construct new residential electricity lines at 72 Kingston Road and 25 Tavern Road, to be continued next week in the Licenses and Franchises Committee. The council had already approved a sidewalk opening for the owners of 25 Tavern Road, but a representative from Eversource explained that the company required a grant of location in its own name.
- Opened a public hearing for a special permit for a proposed mixed-use building at 220 Moody St. that will include a hotel, restaurant, banquet space and owner’s apartment. At the request of the applicant, the council agreed to postpone the hearing until Jan. 12.
- Approved a series of items that passed through the council’s committees last week: a number of license renewals, a $60,985 grant to the Waltham Police Department for traffic enforcement and a time extension for a permit for a proposed marijuana dispensary.
- Sent a discussion concerning the use of Flock Safety cameras to read license plates to the City Council’s Ordinances and Rules Committee for further discussion next week.
- Forwarded multiple requests from Mayor Jeannette A. McCarthy to the council’s committees for discussion. The council sent donations to the city’s first responders from the Digital Federal Credit Union as well as state grants for the Council on Aging and Department of Public Works to the Finances Committee. It sent draft designs for the renovation of the Waltham Public Library and the appointment of two new members of the Conservation Commission to the Committee of the Whole.
