Single-car crash by rail trail

Waltham police and fire crews responded to the Beaver Street railroad crossing around 1:40 p.m. Sunday for a reported motor vehicle crash.

According to witnesses in the area, the operator attempted to leave the scene prior to police arrival. A passerby, Zach Bourque, told the driver to hand over his keys while he was attempting to drive away.

The vehicle struck a guardrail and signage near the crossing, causing visible damage before coming to a stop.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the individual. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
