Hazardous material incident on Waverley Oaks

Emergency crews responded to Irradiant Technologies Inc. at 425 Waverley Oaks Road on Monday morning following reports of a hazardous materials incident involving an unstable chemical.

According to initial reports, the incident involved diethylene ether, a highly flammable and potentially unstable substance. Crews were first dispatched in the morning and additional resources were brought in later in the afternoon to safely handle the situation.

The Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad was called to the scene due to safety concerns. The chemical was carefully secured, placed in a dump truck and transported to Lexington for proper disposal.
