The days may seem short and bleak, and spring is a long way off. Still, even in winter families, children, teens and adults can have fun and learn about gardens, farming and the environment in programs and workshops offered by Waltham Fields Community Farm (WFCF).

WFCF is now rolling out one-day winter workshops for families and adults.

Offerings include a family workshop for seeded valentines and a workshop on natural dyes for adults.

The farm’s calendar is updated throughout the year with more workshops.

In addition, WFCF’s regular programs for children and teenagers are available throughout the year, with sign-ups every season. These include

  • the Friday afternoon Teen Leadership Corps, which combines skill-building, environmental education and on-the-farm experiences.

The winter sessions begin Feb. 12 for the first two programs and Jan. 31 for the Teen Leadership Corps.

In the summer, there is a daily drop-off program for children in grades one through eight, which is now open for registration.

The farm also offers one-time educator-led programs for organizations and schools at the farm and elsewhere.

Other offerings include a seedling sale on May 10 and 17 and Farm Day on Oct. 18.

All programs are open to the public. Discounts are available for Waltham residents, and there is a scholarship fund for nonresidents.

Advance registration is required. Learn more about the WFCF’s education and enrichment programs here.
