Firefighters extinguish a small house fire on Washington Avenue

Waltham firefighters outside the Washington Avenue home where a fire was reported.

Waltham firefighters responded to 23 Washington Ave. for a reported basement fire around 6:20 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8. Crews arrived to find light smoke conditions and struck a working fire (Box 173).

The fire appeared to have started in a dryer and was quickly brought under control. Rescue 1 confirmed it was related to an electrical dryer issue. While the fire was not severe, it was confirmed to be an active fire situation.

No injuries were reported.

“We have responsible tenants in our apartments who reacted immediately and called emergency services,” said building owner David Schwartz. “We are sincerely grateful and appreciate Deputy Scott Perry and the entire Waltham Fire Department for their swift and professional response to the emergency and we are thankful that no one was hurt.”
