Waltham residents take the stage in Weston summer productions

Seven young actors from Waltham will appear on stage this summer in the Weston Drama Workshop’s 63rd anniversary season. The nonprofit youth theater organization will stage six productions at Regis College between July 17 and July 26.
Waltham’s Brian Crowley, Jonathan Masse, Ellen Reardon, Ephraim Ritter and Mackenzie Walsh will appear with the program’s older ensemble, made up of actors ages 14 to 23 with a few younger performers playing children’s roles. This ensemble will perform three musicals and one play. Audiences will explore the dark world of a bloodthirsty barber in “Sweeney Todd,” directed by Julia Deter; experience the classic tale of love and revolution in “Les Misérables: School Edition,” directed by Chris Brindley; dive into the unique childhood of graphic novelist Alison Bechdel in “Fun Home,” directed by Stephanie Manning; and enjoy a classic Noel Coward comedy in “Present Laughter,” directed by Tristan Burke.

WDW’s younger ensemble — for participants entering 5th through 9th grade — will perform two productions: Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” the magical musical based on the classic animated film, directed by Skylar Grossman; and “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Musical,” a one-act musical based on the popular book series by Jeff Kinney, directed by Callie Llewellyn. Waltham residents Mari Bennett and Anna McBrine are among the young actors performing in these two productions.
These WDW performers have been rehearsing since early June and will perform at the Regis College Fine Arts Center. With over 30 performances slated over the span of just two weeks, Weston Drama Workshop continues its tradition of providing the MetroWest community and beyond with engaging youth theater programs and entertainment for all ages.
Tickets are available at westondramaworkshop.org, and questions can be directed to the box office at 781-768-7070.
