Public Safety Report: Break-in at Lyman Estate under investigation

An early morning break-in at the Lyman Estate is still under investigation, a spokesperson for the Waltham Police Department says.

According to the spokesperson, on Aug. 13 at 1:45 a.m., the police responded to the Lyman Estate at 185 Lyman St. after multiple burglary alarms were triggered. Officers found a broken window pane but did not see any signs of a larceny at that time. The spokesperson said the incident is still under investigation.

A summary of public safety actions from Aug. 7 to Aug. 13 is as follows:

On Aug. 7 at 11:17 a.m., officers located a UTV, an off-road vehicle similar to an ATV, on Loretta Road that a resident had reported stolen last February. Officers successfully returned the vehicle to its rightful owner.

At 1:45 p.m. a father living on Marguerite Avenue told police that he had not seen his daughter since Aug. 2. Officers discovered that the windows of the daughter’s residence had been boarded up. The incident is under investigation.

On Aug. 8 at 1:56 p.m., police responded to a report of an identity theft at a Bedford Street residence. Officers discovered that a fraudulent account with Verizon had been opened up using the reporting party’s name. The reporting party lost $137. The police filed a report.

At 5:17 p.m., Waltham police officers assisted the Watertown Police Department with notifying a resident that the burglary alarm at their Watertown business had been triggered.

On Aug. 9 at 7:37 p.m., Tyler McDonald, 32, of 65 Lake St., Waltham, was arrested on a warrant for larceny from a building and resisting arrest. Earlier that night, an officer who was aware that McDonald had a warrant approached him as he was outside his Lake Street residence. McDonald fled, but was eventually arrested. McDonald was arraigned on these charges on Aug. 11 at the Waltham District Court.

On Aug. 10 at 1:33 a.m., police responded to a report of trespassing outside the site of the former Metropolitan State Hospital at 475 Trapelo Road. An officer approached a group of four people in the parking lot and informed them that they were trespassing. The group then left the area without incident.

At 7:02 p.m., the Fire Department responded to a report of a fire near Rockland Trust at 75 Moody St. Firefighters found mulch that had been smoldering outside and wetted it to prevent it from burning further.

At 7:54 p.m., police responded to a noise complaint at the ReNew apartment complex on Middlesex Circle. Residents reported that their neighbors had been banging on the walls. Officers advised the residents to speak to the leasing office about the incident.

Jonathan Flores-Duran, 20, of 205 Adams St., was arrested at 10:14 p.m. for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of property damage. He was arraigned at Waltham District Court on Aug. 11.

On Aug. 11 at 10:16 a.m., an officer observed a motor vehicle illegally parked in a work zone. The officer ran the vehicle’s information through the station’s database and found that it also had no registration. The police sent a citation for having an unregistered motor vehicle to its owner via mail.

Jorge Caceres, 52, homeless, of Waltham, was arrested at 4:56 p.m. on warrants for felony breaking and entering and larceny from a building. He was arraigned at Waltham District Court on Aug. 12.

On Aug. 12 at 2:15 p.m., the Fire Department responded to a report of a fire outside of the site of the former Gaebler’s Children Center at 275 Trapelo Rd. near the border of Waltham and Belmont. Firefighters observed that a tree stump had caught fire and extinguished it.

At 8:33 p.m. Marek Katzman, 55, of 24 Middlesex Circle, was arrested for violating a harassment protection order.

At 8:10 p.m. police responded to a report of an identity theft at a Candlewood Drive residence. Officers discovered that the reporting party had lost $4,900 due to fraudulent bank account charges.

On Aug. 13 at 8:53 a.m., an individual reported a past assault and battery that had occurred on Brandeis University’s campus. The incident was referred to the Brandeis University Police.

Riley Tejada, 24, homeless, was arrested at 1:18 p.m. for assault and battery on a person who is over 60 years old or disabled, unarmed robbery, shoplifting and two counts of assault and battery.

Weverton Oliveira-Ventura, 32, of 109 Warren St., Watertown, was arrested at 7:43 p.m. on warrants for speeding, a motor vehicle light violation, and three counts of operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license.

At 8:03 p.m. police responded to a report of a larceny outside of a Pidgeon Lane residence. Officers learned that a person in a red van had parked in front of the residence and stolen the reporting party’s scooter, which was worth $100. The incident is under investigation.
