Bug encounters at Wellington Fields

This past Saturday, Waltham’s nature lovers joined Linda Graetz of the Waltham Land Trust for a “bug walk” at Wellington Fields. The fields were once farm land adjacent to Wellington House, a historic building located at 735 Trapelo Road. The Wellington House was restored with grants from Waltham’s Community Preservation Act (CPA) funds. The farm land had been neglected for many years. The Friends of Wellington Fields, a project of the Waltham Land Trust, spearheaded the Wellington Fields Restoration Campaign to clear out the overgrowth and invasive plants and replace it with native species and mowed paths for recreational use.

Graetz is an educator and photographer more than three decades of experience in museum and art education. She trained as a teacher/naturalist at Mass Audubon’s Drumlin Farm and taught there for more than 10 years. It was through her time at Drumlin Farm that insects captured her interest. Her passion now is to inspire others to see and learn more about these amazing creatures.

I got the interest in photography from my dad and in nature from my mom. I chronicle nature, family, events, sometimes meaningful sometimes random. It is a hobby that I enjoy. I have lived in Waltham for 29 years. I love visiting the countryside but love living right in the city. I love having a choice where I can walk, bicycle or drive to the supermarket and other places if so desired.

  1. If I could have been two places at once, I would have attended this delightful event! Great story and photos; I almost feel like I was there!
