Public safety report: Juveniles arrested in connection with Scooter Mutter burglary

Four juveniles were arrested on Sept. 16 for allegedly breaking into Scooter Mutter and stealing six scooters valued at a total of $9,900, according to a police spokesperson.

On Sept. 16 at 11:20 p.m., police responded to a report of a burglary in progress at 108 Elm St. #1. When officers arrived at the scene, they observed a large group fleeing the scooter rental store, but were only able to locate and arrest four individuals.

Three of the four juveniles were charged with burglary, motor vehicle larceny, trespassing, larceny over $1,200 and destruction of property over $1,200.

All four were charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle.

One juvenile had an active warrant from Boston for motor vehicle larceny and conspiracy, according to a police spokesperson.

The incident remains under investigation.

Additional public safety actions

A summary of public safety activity from Sept. 11 to Sept. 18 is as follows:

On Sept. 11 at 10:47 a.m., police responded to a report of a larceny at BJ’s Wholesale Club at 66 Seyon St. An individual allegedly took two televisions, valued together at $2,800, using fraudulent receipts. No arrests were made and the incident is under investigation.

At 11:35 a.m. police responded to a report of a motor vehicle larceny at 46 Lincoln St. A parked excavator was allegedly stolen from a construction site at the property. No further information is available.

At 11:54 p.m. police responded to a report of a missing person. A mother called to report her 16 year old son missing, but he returned home before police arrived.

On Sept. 12 at 12:24 p.m., police responded to a report of a hit and run at 230 Third Ave. After reviewing video footage of the alleged incident, officers concluded the reported damage was preexisting.

At 1:15 p.m. police responded to a report of a cryptocurrency scam. A woman reported receiving a pop-up on her computer and after contacting the provided phone number she was instructed to put money into a bitcoin machine. The woman then went to a bitcoin machine in Belmont and paid the requested money, resulting in a $2,900 loss.

At 5:08 p.m. police responded to a report of a larceny and online scam. An individual attempted to sign up to be a vendor at an American Legion event via the event’s Facebook page, but signed up on a fraudulent page resulting in a loss of $100.

On Sept. 13 at 11:41 a.m., police responded to a report of a larceny on Crescent St. A man reported his bike, valued at $199, was stolen. After reviewing video evidence, police have been able to identify a suspect.

At 7:45 p.m. police responded to a report of assault and battery at Boston Kebab at 146 Lexington St. A 16 year old was allegedly calling the store owner and customers racist and following customers out to their cars insulting them, according to a police spokesperson. Officers reported the juvenile smelled of alcohol was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

At 11:24 p.m. police responded to a report of a missing person at a Banks Street group home. A member of the home left and hadn’t returned. He was located in Belmont and returned home.

On Sept. 14 at 7:28 a.m., police responded to an outside agency assist request from the Lexington Police Department at Star Market at 1070 Lexington St. LPD located a stolen motor vehicle from their town at Star Market. Officers assisted until the vehicle was removed.

At 11:30 a.m. police responded to a report of a burglary at Sakura Restaurant at 5 Pine St. The owner said she found the cash register open and the tip jar empty, with approximately $2,100 missing after she arrived to open the restaurant. The incident is under investigation.

At 11:38 a.m. police responded to a report of a burglary at Rhino Lounge at 11 Cooper St. Approximately $600 was missing. It is unclear if the incident is related to the above burglary, according to a police spokesperson. The incident is under investigation.

On Sept. 15 at 6:21 a.m., police responded to a report of someone sleeping in an ATM at Bank of America at 880 Main St. The Waltham Fire Department arrived before police and woke up the individual. By the time police reached the scene he had left.

At 3:44 p.m. police responded to a report of a larceny on Crescent St. An individual reported a scooter, valued at $1,200, was stolen. Police have identified the suspect as the same person identified in connection with the Sept. 13 bike larceny on Crescent St., according to a police spokesperson. The incident is under investigation.

On Sept. 16 at 9:28 a.m., the Waltham Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle fire in a parking lot at the Brandeis University Mandel Humanities building at 415 South St.

At 9:36 a.m. Mathew Daffe, 36, of 12 Lowell St., was arrested on a warrant for three counts of destroying property valued at more than $1,200 and arson or burning of buildings.

On Sept. 17 at 5:01 p.m., police responded to a report of illegal dumping at Prospect Hill Park at 314 Totten Pond Rd. A park ranger reported a large amount of shrubs or trees were dumped in the park. Police have identified a potential suspect, according to a police spokesperson.

At 5:29 p.m. police responded to a report of a larceny at a Lowell St. residence. A resident reported that upon arriving home she left her backpack outside and went inside the house for a short time and when she went to retrieve the backpack it was gone, according to a police spokesperson. The total value stolen was $950. The incident is still under investigation.

 On Sept. 18 at 8:52 a.m., police responded to a report of a hit and run on Alder St. Police indicated that a crash form will be completed and the other driver involved in the incident has been located.

At 6:46 p.m. police responded to a report of vandalism on River Street. An individual reported that their vehicle had been keyed, but decided not to complete a formal report regarding the incident, according to a police spokesperson.
