Medical technology company Amplitude Vascular Systems announced on Wednesday that it is moving its global headquarters to Waltham.

Founded in 2017, AVS designs devices to address arterial disease. Its primary focus is the Pulse Peripheral Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL) System, a medical device designed to break up blockage and restore blood flow in calcified arteries. The Pulse IVL system is not yet cleared for commercial distribution, but the company intends to commercialize it by 2026.

For the last two years, the company has been headquartered in Boston’s Seaport area. It’s now moving into a lab space at 180 Third Ave. in Waltham.

The lab building was constructed in 2023, and City Council recently approved an amendment to the building’s special permit allowing for two emergency generators.

In the company’s Wednesday press release, AVS Chairman of the Board Mark Toland said, “Waltham/Greater Boston is one of the most vibrant hotbeds for innovation in the country and provides significant advantages in recruiting the best talent.”

The press release also features a quote from Mayor Jeannette A. McCarthy celebrating Waltham’s “thriving hub” of life science technology companies, saying she is “proud to welcome [AVS] into the city.”
