Jersey Mike’s location to replace old Wal-lex Cleaners

A Jersey Mike’s franchise location is slated to occupy the old Wal-lex Cleaners storefront in the Wal-Lex Shopping Center  at 864 Lexington St.

According to Thomas Wood from JA Wood Management, a significant factor in choosing to put the Jersey Mike’s franchise in the plaza was the volume of customers who move through the area.

A traffic evaluation for the location was submitted by VHB consulting and brought before the Traffic Commission. The evaluation found that the addition of a Jersey Mike’s would not affect traffic or parking at the plaza. 

The plan to open a Jersey Mike’s also came before the city’s Conservation Commission. The commission voted at its Oct. 16 meeting to allow the restaurant to construct an industry-standard grease interceptor at the location, which is built on a former wetland area.

“The new Jersey Mike’s will make things significantly more convenient,” says Bentley University sophomore Charles Williams, who is excited about the addition of the restaurant to the plaza. He hopes that the proximity of the new location will allow him to grab a quick but substantial meal between classes and homework.

It is unclear when the Jersey Mike’s location is planning to open. Jersey Mike’s did not respond to a request for comment.
