Community remembers Officer Paul Tracey’s legacy

Family, friends and members of the Waltham community gathered Saturday at Mount Feake Cemetery to honor the life and legacy of Officer Paul Tracey two years after he was killed in the line of duty alongside National Grid worker Roderick Jackson.

The memorial, organized by Tracey’s closest friends, featured prayers, shared memories and a symbolic toast celebrating the lives of those lost. Attendees placed flowers at Tracey’s headstone and stood together in emotional embraces, quiet conversations and moments of reflection as light snow fell across the cemetery.

Father James DiPerri led a prayer at the gravesite, followed by remarks from loved ones who spoke about Tracey’s dedication and humor and the lasting impact he left on the community. Blue balloons were released in his honor, a gesture that has become a tradition each year.

The ceremony also acknowledged Officer Charlie Gryska, who shares the same anniversary date as Tracey, keeping him and his family in the community’s thoughts. Gryska passed away six years ago after a battle with cancer.

The Tracey family expressed their continued gratitude for the strong support surrounding them, which has helped carry them through these difficult years.
