City Council actions in brief

The City Council at its meeting Monday night addressed a series of actions in the following categories:
Ordinances and Rules
- Voted to modify the special permit issued to Digital Federal Credit Union, located at 130 Lexington St., to operate a standalone drive-thru ATM within the existing parking lot.
- Voted to modify the special permit issued to Middlesex Integrative Medicine, located at 29 Juniper Hill Road, for a change in the floor plans and elevations to reduce the area from 8,079 square feet as approved in the special permit to 3,568 square feet, and to expand the operating hours of the facility to allow operation from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
Resolutions, Orders and Ordinances
- Formally agreed on Councilor Paul Katz’s resolution aimed at creating a “clean and current” city website. Katz said anyone with a presence on the city’s website should be responsible for the upkeep of reliable information, mentioning that his constituents were frequently unable to find up-to-date information on the site. The City Council voted unanimously in favor of a motion to send a copy of the initiative to board clerks and committee heads throughout the city, as well as to the City Council’s Committee of the Whole.
- Agreed on Councilor Katz’s resolution to address rodent activity. Katz suggested that a sustained, science-based, citywide plan be made in conjunction with the Health Department to reduce the number of rodents in Waltham, saying that the city’s use of bait boxes has been insufficient in curbing the rodent population and that his constituents deserved a more informed and consistent strategy.

Thank you counselor Paul Katz for addressing the rodent problem. I am a resident of Hovey House and the rodent problem is horrid. Traps are useless. There must be better solutions out there.
