In Support of Alison Leary

To the Editor of the Waltham Times,

I’m proud to support Alison Leary in her bid to replace John Lawn as State Representative for the Tenth Middlesex District, representing Newton. Waltham and Watertown.

Our community deserves a representative at the state level who will not only be visible in and around Waltham, but who will advocate for the progressive values that will best support our diverse neighborhoods.

Waltham is a city with inadequate housing; Ms. Leary will be a strong voice for housing. She has recently been endorsed by Abundant Housing Massachusetts (AHMA) who recognized her pro-housing leadership as she advocated for strong compliance with the MBTA Communities Act in Newton where she is a City Councillor.

One of Ms. Leary’s key priorities is access to high-quality, affordable health care; specifically she supports a single-payer system. She is committed to working with MassCARE and other partners to advocate for healthcare reform for all. An endeavor of this level of magnitude will only come to fruition with collaboration across multiple people and organizations. Ms. Leary has demonstrated an aptitude for working with others in all aspects of her life: professional, personal and community; this will serve her well at the State House.

Ms. Leary has also been endorsed by 350 Mass Action, a statewide volunteer network that is working to address our climate crisis by eliminating greenhouse gas emissions and moving our world to a 100% clean, sustainable, and just energy future.  It is essential that our elected officials be forward thinkers who understand the need to plan for tomorrow; Ms. Leary is that person.

I strongly encourage my neighbors to support Alison Leary in the Democratic primary this coming September. She has the experience, values, and collaborative leadership our community needs to address the challenges we face today while preparing for those ahead. I am optimistic that she will be a thoughtful, productive and active advocate for Waltham and I hope you will join me in voting for Alison Leary.

Sincerely,
Nadene B. Stein
