Africa Connect Food Festival draws crowd to Waltham Common

African music drifted across Waltham Common on Saturday afternoon as crowds gathered in the heat for the Africa Connect Food Festival, a free celebration of African food, music, fashion and business.
Vendors, performers and local entrepreneurs representing several African countries filled the common, drawing visitors from Waltham and well beyond. Among those braving the temperatures were a former Peace Corps volunteer who spent three years in Africa and the director of Radio Uganda, which is based in Waltham.
The event was open to everyone at no cost.
For organizer Sarah Kazibwe, president and founder of ReNew Africa, the afternoon was a chance to put African culture’s contributions to the Waltham area on full display.
