Man arrested for a second time in two weeks on multiple charges

A man arrested last week was arrested again this week on multiple charges and warrants.

During this summer, multiple cars were broken into overnight. Police were able to identify two people of interest, one of whom was Matthew A. Marujo, 26, homeless, of Waltham. An officer spotted Marujo at the Dunkin’ Donuts location at 859 Main St. 

According to the police report, Marujo fled on his bike despite the officer turning on his lights and yelling at him to stop. Two additional officers caught up with Marujo on Charles Street. During the arrest, he allegedly attempted to wriggle away from officers to prevent them from putting handcuffs on. While being booked, police located tin foil with what appeared to be heroin residue tucked in Marujo’s sock. He also had bolt cutters and wire cutters in his backpack.

Marujo pleaded not guilty on Aug. 10 to charges of possession of a class A drug subsequent offense, possession of a burglarious instrument and resisting arrest. Marujo also had outstanding warrants from Somerville District Court and Brookline District Court. It is unclear whether or not he is being held in jail based on information available from MassCourts. Marujo will face a pretrial hearing for his case on Sept. 9.

Additional court activity

Bernardo Betancourt, 50, of Waltham, had a case against him dismissed on Aug. 4. The charges against him were one count of cocaine trafficking in an amount of 18 grams and less than 36 grams, one count of possession to distribute a class B drug and one count of conspiracy to violate drug law. The charges were in relation to an event that allegedly took place in May of this year. There was no reason for the dismissal provided on MassCourts.

Michelle Courtney, 48, of Waltham, had a case against her dismissed on Aug. 4. Courtney faced charges identical to Betancourt, based on the same alleged event. Courtney’s case was dismissed based on lack of prosecution, meaning that the Commonwealth was not prepared to prosecute the case and decided to dismiss it.

Jasmine Sical, 22, of Waltham, pleaded not guilty on Aug. 6 to a charge of assault and battery on a family or household member. The charge is in relation to an incident at a residence in Waltham. Sical was released on personal recognizance by Judge Sarah Kennedy and will face a pretrial hearing for her case on Sept. 22.

Hector Quinones, 41, of Pittsfield, pleaded not guilty on Aug. 6 to a charge of larceny over $1,200. The charge is in relation to an incident at Costco Wholesale on Second Avenue in Waltham. Quinones was released on personal recognizance by Kennedy and will face a pretrial hearing for his case on Sept. 15.

Danielle M. Allain, 38, homeless, of Waltham, pleaded not guilty on Aug. 7 to a charge of possession of a class B drug. The charges stem from an incident at the Extended Stay America on Fourth Avenue. Allain was ordered to be held at Massachusetts Correctional Institution Framingham by Judge Ellen M. Caulo. She will face a pretrial hearing on Sept. 3 for her case.

Alex Sandoval Escobar, 25, of Waltham, pleaded not guilty on Aug. 10 to one count of unarmed burglary and assault and two counts of assault and battery on a family or household member. The event is in relation to an incident at a residence in Waltham. Sandoval Escobar was released on personal recognizance by Caulo and will face a pretrial hearing for his case on Oct. 20.

Edgardo Santiago, 54, of Waltham, pleaded not guilty on Aug. 10 to two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, one count of assault and battery on a person over 60 or disabled and one count of assault and battery on ambulance personnel. The charges stem from an incident at a residence in Waltham. Santiago was released on personal recognizance by Caulo and will face a pretrial hearing for his case on Oct. 7.
