Portable phone charger fire extinguished by WFD

The Waltham Fire Department successfully extinguished a fire in a multi-family house last week.

On Aug. 23 at 12:41 a.m., fire crews responded to reports of a fire at a Washington Street residence. Upon investigation, a resident had already extinguished a fire caused by a portable phone charger before crews arrived. Firefighters checked the area with thermal imaging cameras to ensure no hidden extension of the fire existed. No injuries were reported.

Additional fire department activity from Aug. 19 to Aug. 23 is as follows:

On Aug. 19 at 5:05 p.m., a fire crew responded to reports of a fire outside the Epstein Building at Brandeis University. Upon arrival, the crew discovered a small patch of smoldering mulch, which they wet down and extinguished.

On Aug. 19 at 5:10 p.m., both police and fire crews responded to Crumbl Cookie on Lexington Street for a small mulch fire. The fire crew wet down the patch of mulch and cleared the area.

On Aug. 20 at 10:26 a.m., fire crews were on the scene of a vehicle accident when they were alerted to a mulch fire in the CVS parking lot on Harvard Street. Crews wet down the area and extinguished the fire.

On Aug. 23 at 11:10 a.m., fire crews responded to a report of a building fire on Gordon Street. Upon arrival, crews found a car on fire in the driveway near the building. Fire crews extinguished the fire, and no one was injured.

Waltham Police Department did not respond to a request for comment by this week’s deadline.
