Waltham Fire Department to host weekend open house

Moody Street Fire Station. City of Waltham.

The Waltham Fire Department is hosting an open house for families on Sunday, Oct 11.

From noon to 3 p.m., families can tour the apparatus floor at the Moody Street Fire Station, 533 Moody St., where visitors can see fire trucks and other emergency vehicles and meet members of the fire department.

The event concludes WFD’s weeklong Student Awareness of Fire education programming. During the week, kindergarten, first- and second-grade students receive a variety of safety lessons from teachers. The program coincides with National Fire Prevention Week, which is the oldest United States public health observance on record, according to a WFD press release.

The focus of the program is set each year by the National Fire Protection Association. The theme this year is “Safe Charging Is a Superpower.” Throughout the week, students learn how to safely buy and charge electronics.

“The Waltham Fire Department open house allows us to reach out to the community and arm local families,” said WFD Lt. Mike Murphy. “We look forward to meeting residents and preparing them on how to react if a fire does start and how to charge their electric devices in a safe manner.”

For more information about the open house, residents can call Murphy at 781-314-3717.
