Waltham POPP Plans ‘Coats & Notes’ Fundraiser to Support School Arts Programs

Waltham POPP is holding a “Coats & Notes” fundraiser on Sunday, Nov. 8, at Stanley Elementary School, featuring a sale of winter clothing and other donated items to support arts education in the city’s public schools.

Residents can support the effort by donating, purchasing or selling a variety of items. New and gently used items will be accepted, including:

  • Winter coats, jackets, hoodies, snow pants, hats, mittens and boots.
  • Musical instruments and accessories.
  • New or nearly new art supplies.

The sale runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Waltham POPP, which stands for Partners of Performers and Presenters, is a nonprofit organization started in 2025. The group helps meet needs that may fall outside regular school budgets. It supports fine and performing arts programs in Waltham Public Schools such as the band program and dance theater by planning trips, raising money and sustaining musical programming.

“Last year, we were just getting our feet off the ground and did some grassroots funding like restaurant nights, but nothing big,” said Kristin Sick, POPP vice-president. “This year, we thought an organized, fun consignment sale relevant to our program and population would be a great way to raise money and bring the community together.”

The money will be used for such things as new violins, instrument cases, after-school classes, and meals for performing students.

Organizers hope the fundraiser will give residents an opportunity to find affordable winter clothing while strengthening arts education in the community.

“It’s a trial run. We’ll see how it goes, but the goal is to help support the arts programs,” Sick said.

Those interested in participating or volunteering can complete the Coats & Notes signup form at www.walthampopp.org/coatsnotes.

Donations can be dropped off from 9 to 10 a.m. on Nov. 4 at Stanley Elementary School.
