Waltham’s Abigail Arnold wins semifinal round of ‘Jeopardy! Second Chance’

Waltham’s Abigail Arnold won a decisive victory in the semifinal contest on “Jeopardy! Second Chance”, which aired Dec. 29. She was among nine contestants who had competed previously on “Jeopardy!” and were invited back to compete in the Second Chance tournament. Arnold, a Brandeis University alumna and current staff member, first competed this past April. 

Arnold was in second place with $4,400 after the first round of the semifinal. She surged into first place by correctly answering all five questions in the Biblical Women category during the second round. She went into the final round with a commanding lead. The final question was on European history: “On Jan. 20, 1649, he asked ‘by what power I am called hither? It is not long since that I was in the Isle of Wight.’” All three contestants failed to get the correct answer (Charles I, king of England), but Arnold prudently had bet $0 and so won the game with $25,600. 

Arnold will compete against winners of the other semifinal matches at the Second Chance finals on Jan. 1 and 2. The winner of the final receives a $35,000 prize and a spot in the Champions Wildcard tournament.
