Spruce Street van fire extinguished with no reported injuries
The Waltham Fire Department successfully extinguished a vehicle fire on Monday night, saving the occupant and her cat in the process.

On April 27 at 8:53 p.m., fire crews responded to a parking lot near 25 Spruce St. where there were reports of a mobile home fire. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a Ford Econoline F450 15-passenger van on fire. Crews were able to extinguish the fire using hoselines attached to hydrants nearby.

A woman had exited the vehicle before crews arrived, and firefighters were able to remove a cat from the vehicle who is “relatively unharmed” according to a press release from the department. The cat received a veterinary evaluation.
According to a joint investigation with WFD and the State Fire Marshal, the fire was determined to be accidental and most likely caused by improperly disposed cigarettes.
