Baroque music graces the library lawn

Cellist and viola da gambaist Judah Coffman performed a free concert on the lawn at the Waltham Public Library on Aug. 27. The program included music for the viola da gamba by English composer Christopher Simpson and Scottish composer Tobias Hume, the Cello Suite No. 3 of Johann Sebastian Bach and contemporary pieces by Reena Esmail and Mark Summer.

Coffman is a performer and scholar based in Boston. He received his doctorate in music from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, specializing in European music of the Renaissance and early Baroque periods.
