A cormorant airs out its wings at Bleachery Dam

When I ride my bike to work along the Charles in the morning, I like to glance at the Bleachery Dam to see what is happening. Most of the time, there is quite a bit of activity. Recently I noticed a double-crested cormorant spreading its wings out in the morning sun. This species hunts for fish by diving into the water, but its feathers are not waterproof, so it must dry them with solar power.
