Waltham’s good neighbors can step up for our unhoused

As a lifelong resident of Waltham and a leader in the city for over 25 years, I have seen members of the Waltham community step up and support each other time and time again. We’re a city built on good neighbors who look out for one another.

Unfortunately, our unhoused community members are facing increasingly hard times. Every morning, they are stuck out on the streets, subject to the elements, without access to proper shelter and resources. Fortunately, our community is supported by Chaplains on the Way (COTW), who work to provide those experiencing homelessness with shelter, food, compassion, and assistance.

I’m excited to share that I’ve agreed to serve as Chairman for the 2^nd Annual Chaplains on the Way – Waltham Cares Dinner to Benefit our Unhoused Neighbors. It’s happening on Wednesday, September 16th at 6:00 PM at the American Legion post 156, 215 Waverly Oaks Rd. This event provides an opportunity to come together and help those experiencing homelessness in Waltham. COTW has seen a 67% jump in people needing help, creating a greater need than ever for support from their programs.

A donation or ticket purchase for this event will directly provide a number of services, including warm shelter and a hot breakfast, professional chaplaincy and compassionate listening for all, and access to healthcare, housing, and life-changing resources like our local Waltham Police Homeless Outreach Team.

Both tables ($500) and individual ($50) tickets are available, as well as an option for donations only, for those unable to attend the event. Even if anyone cannot afford a ticket or donation, they are welcome to attend the dinner and show their support. No single one of us can fix this problem alone, but when Waltham pulls together, we can make sure everyone is treated with dignity. I trust that the Waltham community will do their part to support our unhoused neighbors and make this event a success. I am incredibly grateful to COTW and Waltham residents for everything they do to help those in need. I hope to see everyone on September 16^th.
