WHS student arrested for assaulting school resource officers

A student at Waltham High School (WHS) was arrested for assaulting two school resource officers on Tuesday morning.

According to a spokesperson for the Waltham Police Department, the student was arrested at 10:30 a.m. for two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, and one count of assault and battery on an elder, due to one of the officers being 60 or older.

As a result, a hold in place protocol was enacted. This protocol mandates that the hallways of the school remain clear for students or staff in distress.

Another hold in place stemming from an unrelated issue was implemented as well.

High School Principal Darrell Braggs sent an email to families on Tuesday afternoon, notifying them of the incidents.

Braggs’ email stated, “I am writing to clarify the rumors circulating about a lockdown at the school on Tuesday, March 4th, 2025. Please be assured that at no point was the school placed on lockdown. Lockdown protocols are implemented only in response to immediate threats to the safety of our staff or students, either internal or external.

“What occurred today were two separate ‘hold in place’ protocols, which are used to clear hallways in support of staff or students experiencing personal distress. These situations were unrelated, and both were resolved by 11:10 AM, at which time normal school operations resumed.”

The email did not reference the assault.

Police did not provide the student’s age or any additional information, only saying that the student was under 18. The police spokesperson said that the Police Department will pursue charges for the alleged crimes with the Waltham District Court.
