Public Safety Watch: Newton Man arrested on drug charges

A Newton man was arrested at around 11:30 p.m. in Waltham on multiple drug charges after an officer observed him make an illegal left turn.

On March 2, a patrol officer initiated a traffic stop after they observed a driver make an illegal left turn from Main Street onto Hammond Street.

The driver, Ronald Quintanilla Medrano, 24, of 126 Crafts St., Newton, told the officer that he did not possess a driver’s license. The officer observed paraphernalia potentially related to the distribution of narcotics. The officer conducted a search of the vehicle and discovered multiple types of drugs packaged for sale, including cocaine, marijuana flower and over 30 marijuana vape pens.

Medrano was arrested and charged with possession of class B, C and D drugs with the intent to distribute, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and making an illegal left turn.

Dracut Woman arrested for assault and battery on a police officer

A Dracut woman was arrested for assault and battery on a police officer, following a fight at the Hilton Garden Inn at 450 Totten Pond Road.

Police responded to a report of a fight between two women at the Hilton Garden Inn, on March 4 at 8:15 a.m. 

When the police tried to separate the two parties, a female juvenile allegedly punched an officer.

When officers attempted to detain the juvenile, an adult female allegedly struck an officer in the arm after attempting to interfere with the arrest. Aliana Perry, 19, of 60 Florry Drive, Dracut, and the juvenile were detained.

Hotel staff alleged that Perry had previously kicked an employee with a shod foot. A shod foot is a foot covered with a boot or shoe used to strike someone. Under Massachusetts General Law, it can be considered a dangerous weapon depending on the victim’s injuries.

Perry was arrested and charged at 9:28 a.m. for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct and assault and battery on a police officer.

The juvenile was also arrested.

Waltham man leads police on brief chase

On March 4, an officer observed a vehicle cross the double yellow lines while traveling on South Street. The officer activated his lights to initiate a traffic stop, but the operator did not stop their vehicle.

The operator pulled over several times but kept traveling once the police cruiser would stop.

Other officers were eventually able to stop the vehicle at the intersection of Main and Moody Streets, and the operator was arrested without any further issues.

Michaud Georges, 44, of Waltham, was arrested and charged at 9:25 p.m. with failure to stop at a stop light, a marked lanes violation, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop for police.

An address for Georges is listed on the arrest log as “66A Charles Bank.”

Additional public safety items

A summary of additional police activity from Feb. 28 to March 6 is as follows:

On Feb. 28 at 5:35 a.m., an officer observed a vehicle parked in a no-parking zone on Gale Street. Two parking violations were issued.

At 6:37 a.m. police responded to a verbal argument between a tenant and landlord at a residence on Newton Street. Officers told both parties that the issue was a civil matter and advised the parties of their options.

On March 1 at 2:50 p.m., a caller reported that their vehicle had been broken into overnight after it was left unlocked on Myrtle Street. Police determined that personal property worth about $300 had been stolen. The matter is currently under investigation.

At 5:18 p.m. police responded to a report of a motor vehicle hit and run at Michoacan Market at 150 Lexington St. Upon arrival, it was determined that the matter was a misunderstanding and no wrongdoing was found. Both parties were assisted with exchanging information.

On March 2 at 7:55 a.m., police responded to a report of an unwanted person at the Current on the Charles apartment complex at 36 River St. An employee reported that an individual was sleeping in the common area. It was determined that an individual was a guest of a resident. They left the area without incident.

At 10:35 a.m. police responded to a report of a loose dog on Hibiscus Avenue. Officers were unable to locate the dog.

At 5:50 p.m. police responded to a report of a larceny at a residence at the ReNew apartments at 28 Middlesex Circle. A $300 bicycle had been stolen from the common area of the apartment. A report was filed.  

On March 3 at 12:13 a.m., police responded to a report of a motor vehicle hit and run at 43 Parmenter Road. An individual’s motor vehicle had sustained significant damage after being parked on the street overnight. The matter is under investigation by the traffic department.

At 8:29 a.m. police responded to a report of a larceny at 218 Calvary St. An individual fell victim to an online scam and sent money in the form of online gift cards. A report was filed.

Robert Dunn, 57, of 108 Dudley Road, Berlin, was arrested and charged at 2:01 p.m. on warrants for a marked lanes violation, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

At 4:27 p.m. police responded to a report of someone breaking into an apartment at 3904 Stearns Hill Road. Upon arrival, it was determined that a vacant unit was being shown to a prospective tenant.

On March 4 at 8:29 a.m., police responded to a past break-in incident at the Edison on the Charles apartment complex at 20 Cooper St. Upon review of security camera footage, it was determined that an individual gained entry to the building at 2 a.m. Footage showed that they stole toiletries and a luggage cart from the building. The individual attempted to take the luggage apart before leaving the area. A report was filed.

On March 5 at 10:05 a.m., police responded to a report of an abandoned motor vehicle on Bennett Street. The caller reported that a vehicle with out-of-state plates had been parked near their residence for an extended period of time. Police were able to contact the owner of the vehicle who was able to make arrangements to remove it from the area.

Samantha Gray, 51, homeless, of Waltham, was arrested and charged at 1:21 p.m. for trespassing.

At 5:35 p.m. police responded to a dispute between neighbors at a residence on Albemarle Road. They were referred to City United, a group overseen by the Waltham Community Policing Program devoted to solving civil matters.

On March 6 at 9:07 a.m., police responded to a report of a dog running loose at Elsie Turner Field at 421 Trapelo Road. Upon arrival, it was determined that the dog had run away from its owner. Police were able to reunite the dog with its owner.

At 1:54 p.m. police responded to a report of harassment near Enterprise Rent-A-Car at 140 Moody St. Upon arrival, three individuals from a nearby apartment complex were observed having a verbal argument. Officers defused the situation.

At 3:50 p.m. police responded to a report of a motor vehicle hit and run on Elson Road. A resident observed a black sedan crash into a parked motor vehicle and then back into another. The sedan left the scene, but the resident was able to get their license plate from a Ring Camera. The matter is currently under investigation.
