The Waltham Fire Department responded to and extinguished a two-alarm fire on Autumn Lane on Wednesday morning. The residents, teachers at Waltham High School, made it out safely along with their dog.

On April 29 at 7:57 a.m., three engines, one rescue vehicle, one tower engine and an ambulance responded to 38 Autumn Lane. Crews reported being able to see the smoke from the fire from the central fire station on Lexington Street. Crews were also told of a possible propane tank behind the residence.

A second alarm, called at 8:04 a.m., brought nine more WFD vehicles to the scene including a ladder truck, command staff, a squad car and additional engines. Mutual aid from surrounding cities included a Belmont engine, a Newton ladder truck, a Newton engine, a Weston engine, a Lexington engine and a Watertown ladder truck.

By 8:42 a.m., the heavy fire in the building was knocked down. Companies were still actively working to extinguish the fire, checking for any extensions and wetting down hot spots. Crews monitored the propane tank closely as the fire finished burning off.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
