Public safety report: Student struck by car while crossing near Waltham High School

A student was struck by a car near the entrance to Waltham High School on Lexington Street on Monday, June 1, just after 2 p.m.

According to police, the student was crossing the street with the assistance of a crossing guard when a car ran a red light and struck the student. The student was not injured, and there was no damage to the car. Police cited the driver for the incident.

On May 27 at 4:41 p.m., police responded to reports of a package theft on Second Avenue. The caller reported that a package was stolen and believed that an Amazon delivery driver took it. Police are investigating.

On May 27 at 7:21 p.m., police responded to the Rail Trail where a caller said there were kids with guns. Police found a group of children with “obvious toy guns,” according to the police report.

On May 28 at 9:39 p.m., fire crews responded to the intersection of Adams and Walnut streets to reports of a building fire. Responding crews found no burning building but did locate a nearby resident cooking on a charcoal grill. The grill did not pose an immediate threat. The firefighters on scene spoke to the resident and confirmed that he would extinguish the grill after he finished grilling.

On May 30 at 3:40 p.m., police responded to the parking lot of Ocean State Job Lot on River Street where a car was backing out of the parking lot and struck two pedestrians. The pedestrians sustained minor injuries but were not transported to the hospital. Police cited the driver for the incident.

On June 1 at 7:09 a.m., police responded to reports of vandalism at 200 Trapelo Road. The caller reported spray painted vandalism on construction equipment. There are no leads on a suspect.

On June 1 at 9:57 a.m., police responded to reports of a car being broken into on Leitha Drive. There is camera footage of the suspect pulling on car handles of cars parked on the street. Police are investigating.

On June 1 at 11:45 a.m., police responded to reports of a suspicious incident in the area of 440 Totten Pond Road. The caller reported seeing a group of kids getting out of a car wearing ski masks and carrying tools. When the caller confronted them, they got back into the car and left the area. After an investigation, police identified three juveniles, who were not from Waltham, and contacted their parents about the incident. The group stated that they were going to try to explore a closed hotel on Totten Pond Road.
