Waltham High School mourns death of Class of 2026 student

Waltham Public Schools is mourning the death of Adama Sow, a member of the Waltham High School Class of 2026, Superintendent Marisa Mendonsa announced Tuesday.

The district shared news of Sow’s death in a message to the school community Tuesday afternoon. The cause of death was not disclosed.

“This loss is deeply felt throughout our school community,” Mendonsa wrote. “Adama’s passing is heartbreaking, and we extend our sincerest condolences to his loved ones, friends, classmates, teachers, and everyone whose life was touched by him.”

School adjustment counselors will be available at Waltham High School on Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. for any students or staff who wish to speak with them.

Mendonsa urged members of the school community to support one another in the coming days.

“Grief affects each person differently, and there is no right or wrong way to process such difficult news,” she wrote. “We encourage students, staff, and families to check in with one another over the coming days, to talk openly about their feelings, and to seek support if needed.”
