ICE and DEA agents spotted
A Waltham resident reported observing an unidentified individual being questioned by agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration outside the Connors Memorial Swimming Pool at 330 River St. on Wednesday afternoon.
The resident, who asked not to be named by The Waltham Times, said he saw several agents pull up in a vehicle and approach the individual as he was sitting on a bench outside the pool facility. He shared two photographs of the encounter with The Waltham Times. One photo showed an individual in the Connors parking lot wearing a green cap and black gaiter covering the lower part of the face, gray T-shirt, khaki trousers and a black vest with “DEA Police” on the back. The second photo showed four individuals, all wearing black hoods and jackets or vests, standing in front of an individual seated on a bench. The sleeve of a jacket and back of one vest are marked “Police.” Two other vests have no visible marking on the back.
According to the resident, the agents questioned the man in Spanish before having him stand up and putting handcuffs on him. The entire exchange lasted several minutes.
James Covington, the regional communications director and unit chief of ICE operations in the Northeast, responded via email to questions from The Waltham Times, sharing that “for reasons of officer safety, ICE does not comment on ongoing operations.”
The Waltham Police Department told The Waltham Times that it had no information on the incident.
