New Waltham emergency notification system now live

The Regroup app.

Waltham’s CodeRED alert system has been replaced with a new software as of July 1. Emergency and community warnings will now be broadcast through Regroup Notifications.

City officials note that Regroup will be “a faster, more reliable way to get real-time alerts.”

LikeCodeRED, Regroup will help the city relay important safety and community information to individuals who live, work or study in Waltham. When there is a city-wide parking ban, a major storm, hydrant alerts, an active shooter, chemical spills or other emergencies, the system will alert all individuals currently signed up to receive notices through SMS, email and voice alerts, depending on their messaging preferences.

Individuals who are currently signed up to receive CodeRED alerts may have already received a email to join Regroup, but they’ll need to finish setting their account up here, making sure to click “First time users – create password” (this option is only for those who received the welcome email from Regroup).

Individuals new to Waltham emergency notifications can use this link to register as a new user. They can adjust contact settings and sign up a cell, landline or email to receive notices.

“No one should automatically assume they have been transferred over to the new emergency contact database,” the city cautioned in an email about the change.

  1. I did not sign up for the CodeRed system because it required my street address which was unnecessary and I was worried they could sell. Also, the city alert system worked fine. The ReGroup did not require a street address. I still worry it’s a third party that has my information, and is being paid by the city to privatize a service the city is capable of providing.
