Totten Pond Road paving project to cause traffic delays this week

Totten Pond Road paving is scheduled for Monday, July 28, and Wednesday, July 30.

Two-way traffic will be maintained during the paving except in the area of the city’s ice rink and Prospect Hill Park, where travel will be limited to alternating one-lane traffic. Work requiring alternating lanes will occur only between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

City officials are advising motorists to avoid Totten Pond Road during construction periods.

This week’s work is part of a major paving and infrastructure improvement project for Totten Pond Road and the parking lot at the city’s Veterans Memorial Skating Rink at 295 Totten Pond Road.

To date, contractors have milled the existing pavement and adjusted utility castings in preparation for the upcoming phase of work. The rink parking lot was scheduled to be paved on July 24.

The project also includes relocating the western driveway of the ice rink to align with the entrance to Prospect Hill Park and installing a new traffic signal with a pedestrian phase to enhance safety. Additional improvements include granite curbing, new concrete sidewalks from the rink to Winter Street, and regrading and paving of the rink’s gravel parking lot. A granite curb island and painted turn lanes are planned for Totten Pond Road to facilitate safer access to the rink and park.

Trash and recycling collection in the area will continue as scheduled, although some pickups may occur as early as 7 a.m. to avoid interfering with construction. Residents are advised to place items at the curb by 7 a.m. on collection days.

For further information, residents can call (781) 314-3830 or email jgetherall@city.waltham.ma.us. Here are the city’s documents for this project.

  1. Thanks Waltham for putting in the traffic light at the Prospect Hill entrance! It was tough to pull out sometimes when leaving. Also thanks for paving the roads.
