Judy Sharpe, 1949–2025

Judy F. Sharpe (Young), 76, passed away peacefully on Sept. 25 2025 at the P.A.M. Acute Rehabilitation Center in Sarasota, Florida.

Born on Jan. 19 1949 in Waltham, Massachusetts, Judy was the beloved daughter of Colin Young and Doris (Saulnier) Young. She spent her early years growing up in The Lowell Street Projects, and at The Saulnier Family homestead on Myrtle Street, surrounded by a close-knit family and the strong values that would guide her throughout her life.

A proud graduate of Waltham High School, she also attended Saint Charles. Judy began her professional journey as a licensed hairdresser, then moved on at the C.E.T.A program in Newton, and transitioned over to The Department of Corrections of Massachusetts as a secretary. Judy rose through the ranks to become a Deputy Superintendent of Operations and Treatment of the Massachusetts Prison System. She also held the esteemed position of Special Massachusetts State Police Officer. Over the course of her career, she served in various facilities including MCI Walpole/Cedar Junction, Old Colony, South Eastern/Bay State, and Bridgewater Correctional Centers—earning respect and admiration for her dedication, integrity, leadership, and especially her fairness.

Though deeply committed to her work, Judy was equally devoted to her family and friends. She cherished time spent in the summer with cousins in Hollis, Buxton, Hills beach Maine. Later in life, she volunteered at an Alzheimer’s care facility in Maine and continued her commitment to public service in retirement by volunteering for law enforcement in Florida.

Judy found joy in travel, board games, and swimming, especially in the Florida sun. Her warm heart, sharp mind, and generous spirit left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.

Judy’s legacy is one of service, strength, and love. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the many lives she touched throughout her life. Judy was known for her courage to overcome any obstacle in her path.

Judy was predeceased by her former husband Nicola Mummolo, and Arthur Sharpe.

Judy is survived by her mother Doris Saulnier Young; her loving daughter Dina Warchal (Mummolo); her grandson Steven Warchal and his wife Etha; her great grandchildren, Elijah and Autumn Warchal; her loving siblings, Colin Young Jr., Kevin Young, and Shawn Young; her nieces and nephews, Brandie Bourbeau, Kevin Young Jr., and Shawn Young Jr. and his wife Gina. She is also survived by her most dear cousins Joyce & Dick Peredna; close friends Pat Hovespian and Cathy McMurtry; and her goddaughter, Alicia Marie Hovespian.

At the time of Judy’s passing her loving and dear sister Debbie Bourbeau, who was battling cancer, sadly passed three days after Judy.
