Jury trial set for New Hampshire man indicted in 2023 Waltham crash that killed police officer and National Grid worker

A jury trial for Peter J. Simon, 55, of Woodsville, New Hampshire, is set to continue in Middlesex Superior Court on Feb. 23, 2026.

Middlesex Superior Court Judge Patrick Haggan rescheduled the jury trial set for Sept. 10, 2025, at a hearing at Middlesex Superior Court on Feb. 21, 2025. The trial has been rescheduled twice; Judge Haggan initially scheduled the trial to begin on March 10, 2025.

A Middlesex County grand jury indicted Simon on two counts of murder in March 2024 after a crash that killed Waltham police officer Paul Tracey, 58, of Waltham and Roderick Jackson, 36, of Cambridge. 

Simon pleaded not guilty to all charges at an arraignment at Middlesex Superior Court on April 10, 2024.

The defendant is facing 22 additional charges related to the crash that took place on Dec. 6, 2023, in Waltham. The charges include two counts of motor vehicle homicide, armed robbery, armed carjacking, three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, larceny of a motor vehicle, four counts of operating to endanger, three counts of leaving the scene, causing property damage, leaving the scene causing death, failure to stop for police, two counts of wanton destruction of property and resisting arrest.

Judge Haggan rescheduled an Oct. 7, 2025, trial readiness conference for Simon to be held at Middlesex Superior Court on Jan. 23, 2026.
