Stephen Walsh, 1952–2025, lifelong Waltham resident and decorated veteran

Stephen “Steve” P. Walsh, of Waltham, passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 24 2025 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was 73.
Born on Jan. 2 1952 in Waltham, he was the beloved son of the late Richard C. Walsh and Jeannette (Belliveau) Walsh. Steve was raised in and spent all of his life in Waltham, where he and his late wife (Jane Walsh) built a home filled with love and laughter.
In 1969 at a young age of 17, Steve enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corp to serve our country for a three year term. During that time, he fought in the Vietnam War and received the National Defense Service Medal (NDSML), a Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star (VSM w/1*) and a Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1972.
Steve’s career began in the HVAC industry, where he worked throughout the Boston area as a serviceman and mechanic. In 1997 he began a new chapter with the Boston Edison now known as Eversource Energy as a mechanic, a position he truly enjoyed until his retirement in 2022 after 25 years of dedicated service.
Steve had a strong work ethic and dedication to family was his priority. He most prized his grandchildren; Nicholas (17), Brendan (14), Ashleigh (12) and Scarlett (8), who so lovingly referred to him “grandfather” as he wished. Steve cherished every moment with them and always had a trick up his sleeve or a fun game to play with them, no matter where they were.
Steve was known for his humor, laughter and love of music and was always the first one on the dance floor. In his younger years, Steve spent many weekends waterskiing with his friends. He also had a love for playing cards, especially Cribbage. Steve was also known as “Mr. Fix-It” who wouldn’t let anyone work on his cars and loved a good home repair project. It didn’t matter what needed repair, Steve was able to figure it out and get it up and running.
Above all, Steve was a hardworking, devoted, and loving family man who provided for and cherished his wife, children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He loved family gatherings, traditions, and the simple moments spent together with laughter.
Steve is predeceased by his wife, the love of his life and soulmate, Jane Walsh. He is survived by his three beloved children, Jennifer Walsh and her partner Richard Thambash, Crystal Philpott and her husband Matt Philpott, and his beloved son Richard Walsh. Steve was also the cherished godfather of Jacquelyn Williams and Bonnie Walsh and a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
In addition, Steve is predeceased by his brother Richard Scott Walsh and sister Denise Walsh. He is survived by his sisters Marcia Walsh and Karen Walsh. He is also survived by his beloved in-laws, Kathryn Mullins Cincotta, Jean and John Walsh, David and Diane Walsh and Michael Walsh.
Those who wish to pay their respects to Steve and his family can do so in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, Waltham on Thursday morning, Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m., followed by a funeral service in celebration of Steve’s life at 12 pm. Burial with U.S. Marine Corps Honors will be held at Mount Feake Cemetery in Waltham.
