District court case dismissed for Waltham man held in ICE custody in Louisiana

Waltham District Court Judge Ellen M. Caulo dismissed four charges due to a lack of prosecution in a case against Yuriy Medvedev, 45, of 120 Willow St., Waltham, at a hearing on Jan. 7.
At an arraignment on Mar. 3, 2025, Medvedev pleaded not guilty to two counts of threat to commit a crime and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
A witness and victim in the case who appeared to testify on behalf of the prosecution was advised that his testimony could potentially bring criminal charges upon himself, and he ultimately waived his right to do so.
According to an Oct. 6 motion written by Medvedev’s lawyer, Alexander Shapoval, Medvedev was arrested by ICE in late March, 2025.
Medvedev’s appearance, scheduled for a jury trial, was waived as he is currently held in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody at the Winn Correctional Center in Winnfield, La.
Medvedev, a citizen of Kazakhstan, remains held in Louisiana awaiting deportation.
