The Waltham Fire Department successfully extracted a man from his vehicle Friday morning after it became submerged in a retention pond.

At 6:45 a.m. on April 17, WFD crews and ambulances responded to a retention pond near the Cambridge Reservoir and I-95 North. A vehicle had crashed into the pond and the driver was still inside. Water had filled the vehicle nearly up to the top of the roof. Firefighters in water rescue suits were able to extract the man through the car’s sunroof.

The driver was taken to Lahey Hospital and the vehicle was towed from the pond. The Cambridge Watershed was notified about the incident.
