Watch City Steampunk Festival approved for a satellite celebration
The License Commission approved a one-day entertainment permit for a satellite celebration associated with the Watch City Steampunk Festival to be held at In a Pickle on Moody Street.
Festival organizer Melissa Honig explained that due to the newly imposed four-hour limit for use of the Waltham Common, the festival is seeking other venues for activities after their time on the Common is up. In a Pickle will host a pub singing event from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on May 9 as a satellite celebration of the Watch City Steampunk Festival.
The main festival will take place on the Waltham Common from noon to 4 p.m.

In other action, the commission approved:
- A request by Bentley University for one-day all-alcohol permits for two alumni events, a retirement reception and an event with the Senior Athletic Advisory Committee.
- A request for a one-day beer-and-wine permit for a “Celebration of Life” for artist Carla Munsat at the Robert Treat Paine Estate. The fee for the permit was waived due to the nature of the event.
- A request for an extension-of-premise permit from Shopper’s Cafe Bar & Grille on Moody Street for the Strides for Education 5K on May 3. The 5K will benefit the Waltham Education and Beyond Foundation.
- A request for a one-day beer-and-wine permit for the Waltham Land Trust’s annual Green Space Blues Jam event at the Robert Treat Paine Estate on May 15.
- Three requests for a farmers market special license permit from Aaronap Cellars, Stormalong Cider and 1634 Meadery. All three vendors have been at the Waltham Farmers Market in previous years.
- A request for change of officers/directors from The Chateau Restaurant.
- A request for a transfer of a common victualer license and change of manager from Bonfire Indian Grill, which is going to be turned into a new North Indian restaurant called Singh’s Kitchen. The manager, Harpreet Singh, is the former manager of Singh’s Cafe in Wellesley and came out of retirement to start this new venture.

FYI there is a little padding in the permit time. We are advertising the event to start at 4:15pm at In a Pickle.
